Horner's Corner: Love to read? Recommendations for Summer (and beyond)!

Love to read? Recommendations for Summer (and beyond)!

Books can inspire us in so many ways. They provide the opportunity to learn, to think, to improve, to imagine. Reading is exercise for the brain, no dumbbells or workout gear required!

Summer inspires many of us to pick up, or download, a copy of new book to read while on vacation. We imagine spending our time reading on the beach, in the mountains, or wherever our travels may take us. Some may not equate travel with reading at all. Personally, I enjoy early mornings reading on my front porch.

This year my reading list has been filled with inspirational reads for my role in the world as a leader and change agent. I’ve recently re-read my all-time favorite and much quoted book when it comes to change:  Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. We can all learn a thing or two from our friends Sniff and Scurry in their undeterred pursuit of cheese!

In addition to fictitious sneaker-wearing rodents, I enjoy supporting my friends and connections as they become published authors. If you’d like to support this incredible list of authors, their books are available wherever books are sold!

  • Infinitely More – Amy Conway-Hatcher
  • Women Mentoring Women – Michelle Renaldo Ferguson
  • Skills: The Common Denominator – Asha Aravindakshan
  • The Bright Hour – Nina Riggs

The list below contains some of my favorite reads to inspire taking a step back and assessing your approach to work, life, responsibility, and how you lead others:

  • The Gap and the Gain – Dan Sullivan
  • Start with Why – Simon Sinek
  • The Starfish and the Spider – Ori Brafman & Rod Beckstrom
  • Our Iceberg is Melting – John Kotter

I truly enjoy reading! A wonderful side effect is learning new vocabulary. I love big words, or you could say I possess a penchant for extraordinary expression! Either way, new words and phrases make their way into our brains when we read them in proper context.

I look forward to your recommendations to add to my list! Send them my way!

Cheers!
