Horner's Corner: Giving Tuesday – The Power of Momentum

Giving Tuesday – The Power of Momentum

Each year, Americans prepare to support their charity or nonprofit of choice on Giving Tuesday. Over the past several years, donations made on this eventful day have risen dramatically. The result of this donation momentum is an increase in much-needed financial support for these mission-based organizations.

Just as we experienced with Giving Tuesday 2020, an estimated 35 million adults participated in Giving Tuesday 2021. And if that isn’t impressive enough, the donations totaled $2.7 billion last year, an increase of 9% when compared to the year prior.

Did you know Giving Tuesday is a relatively young event? It began in 2012 in the United States and has since expanded internationally, making its impact felt in over a dozen countries, for their communities and their people.

How will you mark this year’s Giving Tuesday?

Many have given considerable thought to the donations they plan on making today. Or for the early risers, perhaps sending support to your favorite organization is already complete! Leadership and employees of nonprofits enjoy today too, many of them checking in with their fundraising teams throughout the day for a progress report.

Initial results will be reported this week, with final tallies expected in early December for mail-in donations. Will we experience another record-setting year? I for one, hope that we do!
